Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Jeff McCracken to the Kirkland Elementary School District Governing Board.

This vacancy is due to the resignation of veteran Board Member Margaret Kusler. We offer sincere appreciation for the services provided by Mrs. Kusler to the residents of the Kirkland School District.

Mr. McCracken is a long time resident of the district, having served previously on the Governing Board. He was elected by voters of the Kirkland District on several occasions. Mr. McCracken is married with six children, many of whom have previously attended Kirkland School. He is a general contractor. Mr. McCracken holds an Associate Arts Degree from Long Beach City College and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Long Beach State.

Mr. Carter stated “Mr. McCracken certainly knows the school and the community. I believe he understands the role of the Governing Board and will work to serve all of the constituencies of the District. His previous experience as a Governing Board Member provides him an advantage in assuming a very short term of appointment.”

Mr. Carter accepted letters of interest from residents before conducting interviews of the two well qualified candidates who applied. He then spoke individually with each of the elected members of the Governing Board and with district administration. He enjoyed receiving communications from citizens who voluntarily shared their views of the candidates. Mr. Carter greatly appreciates the community involvement in this process, since it provides a valuable public perspective of the candidates.

The appointment is effective May 2, 2012 and will expire on December 31, 2012. Mr. McCracken has expressed his intent to run for a new term in the November 2012 election that would begin January 1, 2013.

Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-771-3326 (office) or 928-925-6560 (cell).   Mr. McCracken may be reached at
