Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms. Tisha Peterson, to the Kirkland Elementary School District Governing Board. The appointment will be effective May 30, 2013, upon taking the Oath of Office, and will expire on December 31, 2014. This seat was vacant due to the resignation of Mrs. Hillary Joyner, who relocated out of the District. We sincerely appreciate the valuable service provided by Mrs. Joyner to the School District.

Ms. Peterson was one of three (3) well qualified candidates that applied for the position. Mr. Carter interviewed the candidates at Kirkland School on May 29th. Mr. Carter discussed the candidate’s qualifications individually with each of the sitting Governing Board Members and the administration prior to making the appointment. He also received a considerable amount of public input about the appointment, which was very helpful in better understanding the dynamics of the Board and the communities they serve.

Ms. Peterson has been a resident of the district for three (3) years, living in Wilhoit. She is a parent of a former and current student.

Ms. Peterson is a graduate of Prescott High School. She received an Associate’s Degree from Yavapai College in Criminal Justice in 2009 and a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Phoenix in 2012. She works in Prescott Valley as an Investigator for Child Protective Services, an agency of the State of Arizona.

Mr. Carter stated “this was a very difficult appointment due to the quality of candidates and the various opinions about who should be appointed”. He believes “Ms. Peterson will represent the residents of the district extremely well. She is a parent who lives in a community in which a majority of the Kirkland students reside, has a collegial and cooperative spirit, is willing to work in concert with others, listen to diverse opinions, and understands school operations. She should complement the existing Board Members very well.”

Mr. Carter may be reached at 928-925-6560 (cell) and Ms. Peterson may be reached at 928-583-4232 (cell).
